Deep Tissue Massage for Recovery

Maintaining normal tissue integrity is vital to muscle health and performance. Nearly all of our patients are active and consistently pushing the limits of exercise.

Massage therapy can be a great way to decrease muscle tension, increase relaxation and help augment recovery.

The average patient in our clinic spends long hours working, parenting, and when they have time - exercising. This leaves little time to spend on self care. While we all know that foam rolling, stretching, and self care exercise is important to stay healthy - it is typically the first thing that gets cut out of the routine when time is short.

When we use a muscle we break it down, be that weightlifting or holding a posture at your desk all day. In a perfect world your body will rebuild the tissue overnight and be ready for the next day. If your rate of breakdown exceeds your rate of rebuilding, your body starts to create scar tissue and muscle adhesions to help get you through. With too much build up you start to feel that knot that you can never work out. Stretching and foam rolling can help, but often you can’t quite release those tight knots on your own.

This is where massage can greatly benefit you. Our massage therapists will break up the scar tissue, fascia, and those pesky knots to restore normal range of motion and decrease pain levels.

The other main time a deep tissue or sports massage is useful is to help flush out inflammation and swelling. Watch the Tour de France and after every day of riding, you’ll see each rider getting a massage to help flush out their legs. Using compressive forces and longer massage strokes, the massage therapist can help to flush out the inflammation and swelling helping to augment your recovery.
