Which type of Massage is right for me?

While there are three different types of massage offered, there are some similarities and some differences. What is right for you depends on your reason for massage and your goals.

Goal: Relaxation and Stress relief

If your goal is to relax and decrease stress, Swedish massage is most favorable. This is a technique that uses a combination of gentle, broad strokes to decrease muscle tension and increase relaxation. The therapist uses oil or lotion directly on the skin and generally works from head to toe to release muscle tension or muscle adhesions. Typically the massage will be a full body focus, but you can have your Boulder Massage Therapist focus on a specific area.

Goal: Relief from chronic muscle tightness

If your goal is to get rid of pesky muscle knots that you just can't seem to stretch out, Deep Tissue Massage is likely your best bet. Deep tissue massage therapy is designed to create effective change in the deeper layers of muscles and fascia. Using more pressure than other massage techniques, deep tissue is able to create change in stubborn areas that have been chronically tight.

Goal: Relief from a specific injury

If you have a specific injury that you are focused on healing, sports massage therapy is likely your best bet. The therapist will use massage techniques that focus on balancing your body, helping to recover from exercise, and decreasing inflammation. The massage can focus on specific problem areas (legs or IT band for runners vs forearms for climbers, etc.)

Goal: Increase Flexibility or Mobility

If your goal is to increase flexibility in a certain area, sports massage is likely your best bet. Sports massage therapy in Boulder can help to focus the muscle work around your hamstrings, hip flexors, or shoulder to restore normal mobility in the tissues.
